About our 2024 honoree, Samantha Foon
Samantha Foon’s involvement at The J began in 2017 when she and her husband, Michael, enrolled in JBaby leading up to the birth of their twins, Riley and Easton. Samantha has been a fixture at The J ever since, joining the Board of Directors and JFamily Advisory Committee and planning numerous events over the years. She currently sits on The J’s Board of Directors as the Vice President of Family Programming.
In addition to Samantha’s positions at The J, she serves on the NEXTGen Detroit Executive Board as a Campaign Vice President. During her tenure with NEXTGen, she has planned a variety of events, including co-chairing the first annual Herzl Society dinner and twice co-chairing Epic. She is also a Women’s Philanthropy Executive Board Member and an Associate Co-Chair of Young Women’s Philanthropy. Samantha is a co-chair of ORT’s annual family fundraiser, Camp Hermelin; serves on the board of Taproots, Camp Walden’s nonprofit foundation; and is very involved in the PTO at her children’s school.
On a national level, Samantha is a member of National Young Leadership Cabinet and serves as a class Co-Chair. In 2023, she was part of a committee that brought the NYLC Annual Retreat to Detroit to showcase our community to over 300 young Jewish leaders from around the country.
Samantha is a contributing writer for the Detroit Jewish News. She publishes a monthly column focusing on volunteer opportunities and creates video and print content as "Yenta Girl." On a given day, you can find her volunteering her time around town at Friendship Circle, Yad Ezra, Brilliant Detroit, and other non-profits. She is also an active member of Temple Israel.
Samantha has made it her mission to make a positive impact on the Metro Detroit Jewish community. She is actively involved in countless organizations and is always finding innovative, valuable ways to help others.
The J is honored to recognize her extraordinary dedication at this year’s Dr. Larry D. Sills Memorial Golf Classic & Dinner.
